Why use it

Why use our Reduce PDF Size tool

Nothing visible changes

Text stays selectable and searchable, links keep working and images keep their quality.

Removes hidden waste

Metadata, embedded thumbnails and uncompressed data are cleaned out and the file is rewritten compactly.

Never makes it bigger

If your PDF is already optimal, we say so instead of handing back a larger file.

Stronger option one click away

Target size mode can shrink scans dramatically when lossless isn't enough.

Private by design

Optimization runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded or stored.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my PDF get?

It depends on how the file was made. PDFs from some scanners and office apps carry a lot of metadata or uncompressed data and can shrink noticeably; already-optimized files may barely change.

Does lossless optimization reduce quality at all?

No. Page content, fonts and images are copied as they are. Only invisible extras such as document metadata and embedded thumbnails are removed.

What metadata is removed?

Document properties such as title, author and creating software, XMP metadata and page thumbnails. Removing them is also good for privacy before you share a file.

Why is the saving small for my file?

Most of a PDF's size is usually images that are already compressed. To shrink those you need lossy compression — use Target size mode, ideally for scans and photos.
