How it works

How to use QR Code Scanner

  1. Choose Camera and allow camera access, or choose Image to upload, drop or paste a picture of a QR code.

  2. Hold the code inside the frame — it's detected automatically, no button press needed.

  3. Review what the code contains, including the full web address for links.

  4. Use the smart action: open the link, copy the Wi-Fi password, save the contact or copy the text.

Why use it

Why use our QR Code Scanner tool

Camera and image scanning

Use your webcam or phone camera, or decode codes from screenshots, photos and pasted images.

Check before you open

Links are never opened automatically. You see the full address with the domain highlighted, plus warnings for shorteners, raw IPs and look-alike domains.

Smart actions

Wi-Fi codes show the network and password to copy, contact cards can be saved as .vcf, and email, phone and SMS codes open the right app.

Fast native detection

Uses your browser's built-in barcode detector where available and falls back to a fast JavaScript decoder everywhere else.

Nothing is recorded

Video frames are analysed on your device and the camera turns off as soon as a code is found or you leave the tab.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to scan QR codes?

Scanning itself is harmless — the danger is opening a malicious link. That's why this scanner shows you the full address first and flags common phishing signs. Only open links from sources you trust, and be wary of codes stuck over posters or parking meters.

Why isn't my camera working?

Your browser needs permission to use the camera. If you blocked it, click the camera or lock icon next to the address bar and allow access. Also close other apps using the camera, such as video calls. You can always scan from an image instead.

Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot on my computer?

Yes. Switch to Image and drop the screenshot in, choose the file, or simply paste it with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on Mac). It works for QR codes on websites, PDFs and in emails.

Does this scanner save or upload my scans?

No. Decoding happens entirely in your browser. Camera video is never recorded or sent anywhere, and the recent-scans list disappears when you close the page.

Why won't it read my QR code?

Make sure the whole code — including its white border — is in view, well lit and in focus. Very small, blurry, damaged or low-contrast codes are hard to read; try moving closer, turning on the light, or uploading a sharper photo.
