FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is an EMI?

An Equated Monthly Installment is the fixed amount you pay every month until a loan is repaid. Each EMI covers that month's interest plus a slice of the principal, so the interest share falls and the principal share grows over time.

How is EMI calculated?

EMI = P × r × (1 + r)^n ÷ ((1 + r)^n − 1), where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n is the number of monthly payments.

Does a longer tenure save money?

A longer tenure lowers the monthly EMI but increases the total interest you pay, often substantially. Try 15 versus 30 years in the calculator to see the difference.

Are processing fees and insurance included?

No. The calculator covers principal and interest only. Add lender fees, insurance and taxes separately when comparing offers.

Will my bank's EMI match exactly?

It should be within a few cents or paise. Banks may round each payment, use daily interest, or adjust the final installment, which causes tiny differences.
