Create ZIP File

Create a ZIP file online free: add files or whole folders, choose the compression level and download one .zip. Files are zipped in your browser, never uploaded.

  • No upload — 100% private
  • Instant, on your device
  • Free, no sign-up
  • Works offline once loaded

How it works

How to use Create ZIP File

  1. Drop files or whole folders onto the page, or use “Choose files” / “Choose folder”.

  2. Check the list — folders keep their structure and duplicate names get a -1, -2 suffix automatically.

  3. Pick a compression level (0 stores files as they are, 9 squeezes hardest) and name your archive.

  4. Click “Create ZIP” and the .zip downloads straight away.

Why use it

Why use our Create ZIP File tool

Folders keep their structure

Pick or drag a folder and every sub-folder is recreated inside the ZIP, exactly like zipping on your desktop.

Choose the compression level

Level 0 just bundles files (fastest, ideal for photos and videos); levels 1–9 trade speed for smaller documents, code and text.

Opens everywhere

A standard ZIP that Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS open with their built-in tools — no special software for the recipient.

Private by design

Files are read and compressed by your own device. Nothing is uploaded, so it's safe for contracts, IDs and client work.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I zip a folder online?

Click “Choose folder” (or drag the folder onto the page), check the file list, then click “Create ZIP”. The archive keeps the folder and all its sub-folders.

Which compression level should I use?

Level 6 is a good default. Photos, videos, MP3s and PDFs are already compressed and barely shrink, so level 0 (store) is fastest for them. Text, code, CSV and Office files compress well at 6–9.

Are my files uploaded to create the ZIP?

No. The ZIP is built in your browser using your device's memory and processor. Your files never leave your computer or phone.

Can I add a password to the ZIP?

Not at the moment — browsers can't produce password-protected ZIPs that all systems open. If you need encryption, use 7-Zip with AES-256 or share through an encrypted service.

Is there a limit on files or size?

No fixed limit. Everything is held in memory while zipping, so very large batches (several gigabytes) may be slow on phones or older laptops — split them into a few archives if needed.
