How it works

How to use Zip File Extractor

  1. Drop a .zip file onto the page or click to choose one — it is opened on your device, not uploaded.

  2. Browse the folder tree with every file's size and date. Collapse folders to find things faster.

  3. Click a file to preview text, code or images right in the page.

  4. Download a single file with its download button, save everything with “Download all files”, or pick a folder with “Extract all to a folder” in Chrome and Edge.

Why use it

Why use our Zip File Extractor tool

Nothing leaves your device

The archive is read with JavaScript in your browser tab. Contracts, photos and backups inside your ZIP are never sent to a server.

Preview before you extract

See text files, code, CSV, JSON and images instantly, so you only download what you actually need.

Zip-slip and zip-bomb protection

Entries like ../../file are made safe before they are shown or saved, and archives that would unpack to gigabytes trigger a clear warning first.

Extract a whole folder tree

In Chrome and Edge, “Extract all to a folder” recreates the archive's folders on your disk in one go — no download prompts for every file.

Opens more than .zip

JAR, APK, EPUB, CBZ and Office files (DOCX, XLSX, PPTX) are ZIP archives too — drop them in to look inside.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to unzip files online here?

Yes. Unlike most online unzip sites, nothing is uploaded: the ZIP is opened locally by your browser and the page keeps working even if you go offline. Files you extract go straight to your downloads.

Can I open password-protected ZIP files?

Not yet. Encrypted ZIPs are detected and you'll see a clear message, but they can't be decrypted here. Use 7-Zip (Windows), Keka (Mac) or your computer's built-in extractor, which will ask for the password.

Does it work on Chromebook, iPhone and Android?

Yes. It runs in any modern browser, which makes it handy on Chromebooks, tablets and phones where installing an unzip app is awkward. On iPhone, downloaded files land in the Files app.

What is a zip bomb and how are they handled?

A zip bomb is a tiny archive that expands to an enormous size to crash whatever opens it. The tool reads the sizes stored in the archive first and warns you before unpacking anything suspicious, and very large single files ask for confirmation.

Why can't some files be extracted?

Browsers can unpack the two standard ZIP methods, Store and Deflate, which cover almost every archive. Rare methods such as LZMA, bzip2 or AES encryption — and other formats like RAR or 7z — need a desktop app.

Is there a size limit?

There is no fixed limit, but everything happens in your device's memory. Archives of a few hundred megabytes work well on most laptops; phones are happiest below that.
