How it works

How to use Compress Image to 20KB

  1. Drop your photo (JPG, PNG or WebP) onto the page — the 20 KB target is already set.

  2. Wait a second while the tool finds the best quality that still fits under 20 KB.

  3. Check the size shown next to the file: a green tick means it is 20 KB or less.

  4. Download the JPG and upload it to your form.

Why use it

Why use our Compress Image to 20KB tool

Lands just under 20 KB

A quality search aims as close to 20 KB as possible, so you keep as much detail as the limit allows instead of an over-squashed 8 KB file.

Shrinks pixels only when it must

Quality is reduced first. If a large phone photo still won't fit, the dimensions are scaled down step by step until it does.

Honest results

If a photo really can't reach 20 KB, you see the smallest size we managed and a tip to crop it, rather than a silent failure.

Works on your phone

Pick a photo straight from your gallery on Android or iPhone. Nothing is uploaded, so it works on slow connections too.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why do forms ask for a photo under 20 KB?

Many exam, admission and recruitment portals cap photo uploads at a small size such as 20 KB to keep their servers fast. Always check your form's instructions, because limits and dimensions differ between forms and years.

Will my photo look blurry at 20 KB?

A passport-style headshot at around 200–350 px wide looks perfectly clear at 20 KB. A full-resolution phone photo has to lose pixels to fit, so for the sharpest result crop to just your face and shoulders first.

Is 20 KB the same as 20 kb?

On upload forms “kb” almost always means kilobytes (KB). We use 1 KB = 1024 bytes, the same as Windows and most portals, so a file shown as 19.6 KB here will pass a 20 KB check.

My photo is already smaller than 20 KB. What happens?

If it is already a JPG under 20 KB we give it back untouched — re-compressing would only lower the quality.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression runs entirely in your browser, so personal photos for ID and application forms never leave your device.
