How it works

How to use Remove EXIF Data

  1. Drop one or more photos — JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and more are accepted.

  2. Check what each file reveals: GPS location, camera model, serial number, date taken and editing software.

  3. Choose whether to keep the colour profile and, for sideways photos, how to keep them upright.

  4. Download the cleaned photo, or every photo at once as a .zip.

Why use it

Why use our Remove EXIF Data tool

See what you're sharing

A readable list of every EXIF field we find, with GPS coordinates, serial numbers and owner names flagged as personal data.

Zero quality loss

JPG, PNG and WebP metadata is cut out byte by byte. The compressed image data is copied untouched, so the photo is not re-compressed.

Removes more than EXIF

Also strips XMP, IPTC/Photoshop blocks, JPEG comments, PNG text and timestamp chunks, and WebP EXIF/XMP chunks.

Photos stay upright

Sideways phone photos keep a tiny rotation-only flag (no personal data), or you can rotate the pixels instead and drop EXIF entirely.

Batch and zip

Clean a whole album in one go and download everything in a single zip file.

Nothing leaves your device

Your photos are read and cleaned in your browser. No uploads, no accounts, works offline.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is EXIF data and why remove it?

EXIF is information your camera or phone hides inside a photo: the exact GPS location, date and time, phone model, lens and sometimes the device serial number. Anyone who gets the original file can read it, so removing it before you share protects your privacy.

Does removing EXIF reduce image quality?

No. For JPG, PNG and WebP we only delete the metadata blocks and copy the image data byte for byte, so the pixels are identical. Only formats we can't edit safely, such as HEIC or AVIF, are re-saved at high quality.

Do social networks remove GPS location for me?

Most large networks strip EXIF from public posts, but email, messaging apps that send “original quality”, cloud links, forums and marketplaces often keep it. Cleaning the file yourself is the only way to be sure.

Why does my photo still have a small EXIF block?

Sideways phone photos rely on an orientation flag to display upright. By default we keep just that one number — no location, camera or date. Choose “Rotate pixels” if you want no EXIF at all.

Should I keep the colour profile?

Yes, usually. An ICC colour profile only describes how colours should look and contains no personal data. Removing it can make photos from some cameras look dull or oversaturated.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser with JavaScript. Your photos, and the metadata in them, never leave your device.
