How it works

How to use Blur Image

  1. Drop the image you want to blur — a medium blur is applied straight away.

  2. Move the Blur slider to make it softer or stronger.

  3. Add a vignette or lower the brightness if you need text to stand out on top.

  4. Download the blurred image at full resolution.

Why use it

Why use our Blur Image tool

Smooth, Gaussian-style blur

Three box-blur passes approximate a true Gaussian blur, giving a smooth, even softness without blocky artefacts.

Same look at any size

The blur radius scales with the photo, so the full-resolution download looks exactly like the preview.

Great for backgrounds

Blur a photo to use behind text on slides, websites, phone wallpapers or social posts, then darken it with a vignette or lower brightness.

Nothing uploaded

Blurring runs on your device, in a background thread for big photos, so private images never leave your computer or phone.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I blur just one part, like a face or number plate?

This tool blurs the whole image. To hide one area, crop it out with the Crop Image tool instead.

How strong can the blur be?

At 100% the blur radius is 3% of the photo's longer side — about 90 px on a 3000 px photo — which turns most scenes into soft colour washes.

Is a blurred image safe for hiding sensitive details?

A light blur can sometimes be partly reversed. For passwords, documents or ID numbers, crop the area out or cover it with a solid block instead.

Does blurring make the file smaller?

Usually yes. Blurred images have less fine detail, so JPG and WebP compress them into noticeably smaller files.
