Why use it

Why use our Find and Replace tool

Live highlights

Every match is highlighted in your text as you type, with a running match count.

Whole word & match case

Replace “cat” without touching “category”, and control whether capitalisation matters.

Regex with capture groups

Use full JavaScript regular expressions and reference groups with $1, $2 or $<name> in the replacement.

Friendly errors

An invalid pattern never breaks the page — you get a clear message and your text stays untouched.

Private

All matching and replacing happens in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I use capture groups in the replacement?

Enable Regex, wrap parts of the pattern in parentheses and refer to them as $1, $2 and so on. For example, find (\d{4})-(\d{2})-(\d{2}) and replace with $3/$2/$1 to turn 2024-03-18 into 18/03/2024.

What does “Whole word” do?

It only matches the search term when it is not part of a longer word. Searching “cat” then matches “cat” but not “category” or “bobcat”, and it works with accented letters too.

Can I insert line breaks in the replacement?

Yes. In Regex mode, type \n for a new line or \t for a tab in the Replace box. For example, replace “, ” with \n to put each item on its own line.

Why does it say my regular expression is invalid?

Usually a bracket or parenthesis isn’t closed, or a special character like ( . * + ? needs escaping with a backslash. Turn off Regex to search for the text literally.

Can I undo Replace all?

Replace all writes the result into the text box, and your browser’s undo may not cover it. The live Result pane shows the outcome first, so you can review it — or copy the original — before applying.
