Frequently asked questions
How does the word counter count words?
It uses your browser's built-in language-aware segmenter, so words are counted correctly even in languages that don't use spaces. Numbers count as words; punctuation does not.
Does it count spaces as characters?
We show both: the total character count including spaces, and a separate count without spaces or line breaks.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time assumes 238 words per minute, the average silent reading speed for adults. Speaking time assumes 150 words per minute.
Is my text saved or uploaded?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser. Your text is never uploaded, stored or seen by anyone.
Is there a word limit?
No hard limit. The counter comfortably handles long documents such as essays, articles and book chapters.
